Imagine Owning A Golf Course With Your Friends
What if you woke up one day, looked at your phone, and saw a group chat message from one of your friends that read: "Imagine if we had enough money between us to buy a golf course".
"That would be the dream" you might text back, knowing the endless challenges buying a freaking golf course might involve. Some are:
The millions of dollars needed to do so (obviously).
If that's somehow sorted out, how do you agree on which course to buy?
How do you split the budget between course renovations, operations, maintenance, etc.?
Raising the money and making final decisions on all of these questions make it seem impossible for a group of friends to come together and buy a golf course.
Well... LinksDAO is actually set to achieve just that.
Think of a DAO (Decentralized Autonomous Organization) as a group chat with a bank account, and the money you contribute is proportional to the voting rights you have when these governance questions are brought up.
But how do you create this group chat in the first place and open a joint bank account?
The core team at LinksDAO created 9090 Membership Passes and sold them out to the world earlier this month (in a matter of hours in fact). In doing so, the DAO managed to bring thousands of passionate golf fans together and raise over $10.5 million dollars, which now serves as their joint bank account.
For voting rights, a $LINKS token will be airdropped to the wallets that own these Membership Passes (the NFT) in proportion to how many, and which of the two membership tiers, the wallets holds. So when a "group chat poll" comes through, you use your tokens to vote.
NBA superstars Steph and Seth Curry have already bought some Passes! Oh the wonders of digital scarcity... :)
By mid-2022 the DAO plans to acquire the golf course and by early 2023 have it open and ready for some flush-iron swinging (and lots of chunks and shanks too).
And this is just the start for LinksDAO. A well-renowned course architect has expressed interest in the project, partnerships are being established and the press has already started to report on the story. I also expect more celebrities and athletes to join in on the fun in the near-future.
